New Blog… but let’s talk about music!
Here I am. Starting a new blog. I’ve got nothing but a blank page in front of me.
It is November 2025, and the world seems like such a f*cked up place that we’re not even going to talk about that… we have other things to think of – art, music, writing, thoughts of better times, friends and more. That’s what this blog is going to be about.
So, welcome to my new blog, coming to you from my studio. Right now I’m sitting at the Red Bench, typing away on my phone. I have enjoyed a few hits of some NYC Diesel, a sativa that is the bomb.
When I say that I’m coming to you from my studio, I mean that in a physical and metaphysical way. Physically my painting studio is about 12 feet away and in the same room I’m in. Metaphysically, after years of creating art work, I’ve come to the realization that wherever I am is my studio. Life is my studio. My body is my studio. So my studio is both a place and an experience.
Today I want to share with you my latest recording to come from my studio, a new single from UFOverdriver, my sound collage project since 2010. The project has mutated and changed somewhat over the years and this latest release is not even a sound collage, but a rendition of a classic spiritual.
Here’s the description for the song on Bandcamp:
The title track is an adaptation of a spiritual classic… first came the drum beat that made me think about the Rolling Stones 1972 song “I Just Want To See His Face.” During the course of recording… things went a little sideways – and the song ended up sounding nothing like the Stones version… but then I cut up the lyrics from that Stones song and switched the words around – taking a very UFOverdriver approach to the song. The result is a groovy mashup of music that pays homage to the old classic.
On the B-side is a short, original prose poem about shadows in the night. There’s something very David Lynchian about this one…
You can find more music over on my Soundscapes & Music page!
