Visions From The Big Chair

“Visions From The Big Chair”
Photographs on paper
10” x 8”
June 1998

Here I am at age 34 in June of 1998.

I’m contemplating a number of creative thoughts in my head. In the background is our studio. The photo pieces over my head are from Lomo photographs I took. You can see I’m deep into my thoughts in my Big Chair.

My friend Pete Brooks had a Big Chair back in the day, and was proud of it! The Big Chair was where he did his marijuana smoking and his deep thinking. He would say things like “well, it’s Big Chair time…” meaning he had to leave and take care of important business.

As you can see from the collage above, I had a Big Chair too back then, that I got when we worked for an interior design company… I used it for the same purposes. It was overstuffed and soooo comfortable. I would sink into my Big Chair like it was a cloud, taking a smoke break from whatever creative thing I’d been working on that moment.

My creativity has never been confined to painting – I have a plethora of collages, graphic images, small works of art from years of creating. I’m going to share some of these with you… I hope you enjoy this creative journey!

PHOTO COLLAGES

Over the years I’ve made a number of photo collages. I favor a nice grid method when I make photo collages, cutting up photos into one to two inch squares and recomposing them. Here’s a small selection of a few of my favorites…
