“The Oracle Concerning The Valley Of Vision”
acrylic latex, charcoal on sailcloth
47” x 32”
November 1993
As 1993 progressed so did my painting experiments. In the fall of that year I started to become infatuated with random strings I found at work. Tania and I worked in a big warehouse for an interior design company that designed fabrics and wall coverings. When the fabric was cut for orders they would shed threads all over the place. I got into drawing little sketches of random threads collections I’d find on the floor. That’s where the line work originated for this piece.
This painting was created like doing a dance. I primed the canvas, and waited for the paint to dry. I already had a sketch of what I wanted to paint on the fresh sailcloth ready to go. I meditated a few minutes on the sketch and then started to work. First I drew the main lines with charcoal and immediately started applying paint. I danced my way though the whole thing and was done in less then an hour.
This one hangs on the wall of our living room.
