“Lindero”
acrylic latex on sailcloth
37” x 32”
1993

When we lived in Long Beach we lived near the corner of Broadway and Lindero. Across the street from us was a liquor store called Jones Liquor with a classic sign that caught my imagination. The sign had a curved arrow with “LIQUOR” written on it. I used the image of the curved arrow over and over in paintings from 1993 through 1995. I even build a seven foot sculpture out of cardboard of the sign at one point. [Read More]

“Live Action Liquor”
charcoal, acrylic latex on sailcloth
31.5” x 23.5”
July 17, 1993

I’ve always treated art as an experimental process. I’ve never settled on one style and just rode that horse, so to speak. That’s what it usually takes to have success in the art market, consistency. I’ve always valued curiosity over consistency. That’s the engine that drives my creativity – curiosity. Now I’m not saying one path of art is better than another, this is the path that has fit my way of being. [Read More]

I love arrows painted on canvas… when I saw the original painting by Paul Klee with its arrows I had to make my own version. This is the second version I did inspired by Mr. Klee’s painting. [Read More]

“The Oracle Concerning The Valley Of Vision”
acrylic latex, charcoal on sailcloth
47” x 32”
November 1993

As 1993 progressed so did my painting experiments. In the fall of that year I started to become infatuated with random strings I found at work. Tania and I worked in a big warehouse for an interior design company that designed fabrics and wall coverings. When the fabric was cut for orders they would shed threads all over the place. I got into drawing little sketches of random threads collections I’d find on the floor. That’s where the line work originated for this piece. [Read More]

I spent most of 1994 painting the line abstracts series that began in late 93. This one was done much like yesterday’s piece – like a dance. I consider it the companion painting to yesterday’s… they both hang together on our living room wall. [Read More]
