“Grace For The Blue Heron”
acrylic latex on sailcloth
44” x 38”
1997

Tania and I have a certain appreciation for cranes and herons. We used to see several during our commute from our home in Long Beach to our work in Irvine. Sighting one of these majestic birds always brightened our drive.

This painting reminded me of one of the herons we saw leaving LB, before we hit the freeway. We had a Volkswagen Vanagon at the time, and just thinking about these few things – the painting, the heron, the VW… takes me back like I’m in a time machine.

This is one from The Grace Series of 96-97, and is one we still own – I’m happy to say! I painted this in 1997, and was one of the later pieces in the series.
