I’ve always treated art as an experimental process. I’ve never settled on one style and just rode that horse, so to speak. That’s what it usually takes to have success in the art market, consistency. I’ve always valued curiosity over consistency. That’s the engine that drives my creativity – curiosity. Now I’m not saying one path of art is better than another, this is the path that has fit my way of being.

On any given weekend back in the early 90s I would work on a handful of paintings – often with several paintings going at once… working on one while the paint dried on another. On the weekend I painted this piece I was curious if I could duplicate a spontaneously drawn piece. I drew this first one on canvas with charcoal and proceeded to make a nearly exact duplicate on another canvas. The image invokes my guitar and a liquor store sign. This one I left raw and unfinished, but the duplicate got painted and became a piece called “Dreams of Minnesota” – you can see that painting  below.
