INTO THE MYSTIC
THE TAROT CARD PAINTINGS | 2015
In 2015 we lived in a homestead cabin in a place called Gamma Gulch in the hi-desert of Southern California.
I was on my seventh year of my personal exploration of the mystic side of life, an exploration that began in 2008 after I read a book by Carl Jung about consciousness. I had decided that I needed to walk away from the beliefs of my childhood and explore other avenues of thought. I called this exploration “Exercises in Walking Away”, and started a website – onehumanbeing.com (now defunct) to track my new thoughts and ideas.
By 2015 I was miles away from where I started, raised as a Charismatic Christian. These tarot cards mark a time in my life where I dove into studying the tarot – drawn in by my interested in the design of various decks.
Truly, more than I was interested in the tarot as a divination tool – I was interest in the design, the colors, the symbolism, the layout of various tarot decks, especially the classic Rider deck.
I came to the conclusion that the tarot might be some kind of a quantum computer system – that interacts with our consciousness, to help us understand life and where we are on the map of time.
I no longer use the tarot, but it was an interesting experience traveling down that path.
This is a selection of the many tarot paintings I did that year…

Using colored pencils, photocopies, acrylic paint, and pen and ink, I set out in 2008 to explore the realms of the mystics by following my imagination and intuition. This collection is a small selection of the work involved in doing this exploration. Each piece is a meditation of sorts on the subject of mysticism, whether that’s found in the stars, in the leaves and roots of the World Tree, or in a spread of tarot cards…
